All being well: How might we democratise health and wellbeing, by creating the conditions and tools for individuals to help themselves and their loved ones across multiple generations?

The cost of living crisis is having a significant impact on a family’s ability to provide healthy and nutritious food, potentially leading to health conditions such as obesity, chronic diseases, and mental health issues. By providing access to nutritious food, while also fostering education and community engagement, this project can have a positive impact on the health and well-being of children and families.

Sprouts is a school community gardens project that aims to bring people together to learn about the environment, agriculture, and healthy eating, while fostering a sense of teamwork and community. Sprouts serves as a valuable educational tool, allowing children to connect with nature and learn about the importance of sustainability, all while having fun and providing a positive impact on the world around us.

The Grow Kits contain packets of fruit and vegetable seeds that are in season and suitable for growing in the local climate, helping ensure a successful harvest. By growing their own food, schools can access fresh and nutritious produce, allow children to learn about sustainable agriculture practices whilst developing important skills such as planning, patience and problem-solving.

The Activity Kits contain fun and educational activities that are tailored to the Grow Kits, such as recipes, games and crafts and games. By engaging in these activities, children can learn about the importance of sustainability, the benefits of eating fresh and nutritious food, alongside the skills and knowledge needed to grow their own food.

The Sprouts Top Trumps cards are a fun and educational tool. These cards camouflage learning into a fun and interactive game, teaching children about the nutritional value and growing habits of different fruits and vegetables. Each card features a different fruit or vegetable, with information such as the plant’s nutritional value, harvest size, and growing time. Players compare different attributes and use strategy to win the game.

The Sprouts website provides a platform for schools to access a range of educational resources, including lesson plans, gardening tips, nutritional information, and seasonal activity packs. The website also provides a forum for schools to share their experiences and connect with other schools participating in the project. This fosters a sense of community and encourages schools to collaborate and learn from one another.
